School of Public Health Students Honor Anatomical Donors with Traditional Ceremony at Semester’s Dawn

"In a solemn and reflective ceremony on the morning of October 12, 2023 at Gross Anatomy Laboratory hall, second-year students from the Occupational Health and Safety and Community Public Health departments of the School of Public Health came together in a poignant display of respect and gratitude. The students organized a merit-making alms-giving ceremony, a tradition steeped in cultural significance, which they dedicated to the cadavers used in their educational journey. This event not only marked the start of the new academic semester but also served as an honorable tribute to those who donated their bodies to further medical science and education. The ceremony was characterized by its serene dignity, as students stood in reverence, pledging an oath to the cadavers they will learn from in their Anatomy and Human Physiology courses. This oath represents a deep commitment to uphold the dignity and contribution of the donors in their quest for knowledge. Assistant Professor Dr. Supabhorn Yimthiang, who is currently the acting dean of the Faculty of Public Health, presided over the ceremony. Her presence, along with that of other faculty members, reinforced the communal aspect of the event, emphasizing the collective gratitude of the academic community. The faculty's participation underscored the profound impact of body donation on medical education, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and a deep understanding of human anatomy. This event is a reminder of the selflessness inherent in the act of body donation—individuals giving a gift of immeasurable value for the advancement of science and the training of future health professionals. It also serves to remind us of the deep-rooted traditions that honor life, death, and the pursuit of knowledge in the field of medicine."
