Turning Food Waste into Agricultural Value: PHWU Research Highlights Microbial Solutions for Sustainable Farming

March 15, 2026 The School of Public Health, Walailak University, showcased its research-driven approach to sustainable agriculture at AgriNext, presenting innovative solutions for transforming organic waste into valuable agricultural resources. Asst.Prof.Dr. Saowaluk Krainara from the School of Public Health presented a model for converting food waste and organic residues into high-quality bio-compost through microbial-based processes. The approach focuses on controlled biological decomposition, enabling the efficient production of nutrient-rich compost suitable for soil improvement and long-term agricultural use. The initiative addresses two critical challenges simultaneously reducing waste at the source and enhancing resource recovery by turning discarded organic materials into inputs for sustainable farming systems. The research project also reflects the School’s broader role in integrating public health, environmental science, and agricultural innovation, with a strong emphasis on translating research into practical solutions that can be adopted at the community and production levels.
