On June 1, 2024, the School of Public Health at Walailak University hosted a grand orientation event for new students at the Pattharathomphorn Meeting Room in the Chulabhornvejawat Building, Walailak Hospital. This was a significant opportunity for new students to meet the Dean, faculty, staff, and senior students, while also absorbing the academic and communal culture of the School of Public Health. The event, named “Welcome to PHWU,” began at 1:30 PM with an opening ceremony featuring performances from the PHWU Cheerleaders, and the PHWU Ambassadors, showcasing the creative talents of Walailak University’s students. From 2:00 to 2:30 PM, the session “We Are PHWU” was led by Asst.Prof.Dr. Supabhorn Yimthiang, the Dean of the School of Public Health, who introduced the faculty and staff, outlined the school's vision for student development, highlighted student achievements, and discussed future career opportunities and student support systems. The session “PHWU Are You OK” followed, promoting the school's learning systems and adjustment strategies, introducing mental and physical health support services, and emphasizing student involvement through activities organized by the PHWU Junior Helper and Junior Master Trainer. The session was followed by “DekWeRad,” which highlighted the language skills of senior students promoted by the school, benefiting new students who will join the DekWeRad group to enhance their language abilities in preparation for international internships and future careers. The student club then organized the “WE ARE SAMO-PHWU” activity, introducing the Public Health Student Association for the academic year 2024 and outlining student activities for the year. This was followed by a significant ceremony, the Oath of Allegiance to His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, the Prince of Songkla, recognized as the father of modern medicine and public health in Thailand. This ceremony affirmed the students’ commitment to uphold standards and ethics in their future public health careers, inspired by Prince Mahidol's legacy. This orientation not only created a sense of unity among the new students but also clearly defined the direction of their educational journey at Walailak University, paving the way for the values and expectations of the School of Public Health for the upcoming academic year.
