PHWU Raises Awareness on Climate Change and Sustainable Local Fisheries
School of Public Health at Walailak University organized a training and awareness campaign on the impacts of climate change on sustainable local fisheries. The event was held on June 25, 2025, at the Baan Nai Thung Blue Swimming Crab Bank and Coastal Fishery Learning Center, targeting local community members. The activity was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Panatda Pibul, a lecturer at the School of Public Health, who was joined by environmental health students and staff from the university’s Center for Academic Services. This initiative is a part of the university's effort to integrate academic knowledge into community development, fostering a deeper understanding and encouraging participation in sustainable environmental stewardship. The campaign focused on providing knowledge on several key topics: - Impacts of Climate Change: Explaining the various phenomena affecting marine ecosystems and the livelihoods of fishing communities. - Potential Risks to Health and the Environment: Highlighting threats associated with a changing climate, such as water contamination and its effects on public health. - Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies: Presenting practical, community-level solutions to reduce risks and build resilience in the face of environmental changes. This activity was not merely a one-way transfer of academic knowledge but also a platform for meaningful exchange between students and the community. This collaboration strengthens the relationship between the university and local areas, laying a crucial foundation for long-term sustainable development and improved quality of life.
