The History of the
School of Public Health
School of Public Health, Walailak University inaugurated the first batch of students in 1998 under the name of School of Allies Health Sciences and Public Health. There are two types of programs namely Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) and Bachelor of Science (Occupational Health and Safety). The School opened these two programs for the first time in the South: this move was aimed at cultivating higher educational programs and providing much-needed Health Care professionals to the community. In 2006, the school then introduced Master of Public Health (Normal and Weekend course) in Health Promotion and Public Health Management. In addition, Bachelor Degree of Public Health in Community Public Health was launched in 2015 for meeting Community Public Health personnel and conform with the emergence of the Council of Community Public Health
On December 1st, 2016, the School of Allied Health Sciences and Public Health was divided into two separate schools namely the School of Public Health and the School of Allied Health Sciences. The School of Public Health was separated into Environmental Health and Technology program, Occupational Health and Safety program, Community Public Health program, Research Institute and office of the Dean. Originally, the School of Public Health was located at Academic Building 2 and then moved to Academic Building 8 on May 15th, 2020.
Furthermore, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental, Safety, Technology and Health were launched in 2018. In 2020, it is the first time for opening Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental, Safety, Technology and Health (International Program)
The School of Public Health has four aspects of the mission statement: producing graduates, research, academic service, and arts and culture preservation. Walailak University has been offering education in a three-trimester format with a philosophy to incorporate the “servicing and completing the mission” ideal, combining all the associated structures such as the educational support system, financial system, accounts and equipment as well as personnel and organizational management.
Currently, (March 2022) we have 46 lecturers, 5 Administration Officers, 3 Academic Officers, 944 Bachelor students, 39 Master students and 10 Ph.D students.

Our story
Our Color
salmon pink (R:255, G:170, B:150)
Salmon pink is the color of Salmon. It is anadromous: they hatch in freshwater, migrate to the ocean, then return to freshwater to reproduce. When the Spawning season comes, Salmon will swim from the ocean and go against the tide to the exact spot where they borned around 3,000 KM. for mating and spawning. Lastly, they will die. Swimming against the tide has to use more power, attempt and patience. Salmon behavior is similar to Public Health Officers who have to work against the habit to prevent and control people’s health problems. Frequently, health problems always occur from habit behavior such as consumption, exercise, regulation or law omission, and waste management. All these things will bring health problems, then, Public Health Officers have to conduct themselves against the habit, and convenience in health prevention. Besides, the Salmon pink color will stay in our hearts. It reminds us to think about our birthplace which was bestowed on knowledge, morals, and intellect. School of Public Health Announcement
Subject: Specification of the tree, School of Public Health
According to the consensus of the School of Public Health committee, No.1/2021 on January 15th, 2021 agreed to specify the tree of School of Public Health, that is “Asoka”. This tree is the auspicious meaning that means “Not sad” or happiness that happens from selfless love: in Buddhism called “Kindliness”, It likes the commitment of Public Health Officers that have to devote themselves to people’s happiness. Asoka is the standing timber, shading, strong root, red-orange color, and fragrance. It blooms in January – February, and pod in May. This time is the time for graduation.
In this regard, the meeting consensus agreed to specify the tree namely “Saraca indica Linn” the official name in Royal Institute Dictionary B.E. 2554 called “Asoka, and specify the symbol as following details:
- Use for the School of Public Health student generation as “Asoka No….”
- Use for the name of the North area of Academic Building 8 namely “Asoka Area
