The Young Environmental Health Leaders Initiative (YEHLI)

The Young Environmental Health Leaders Initiative (YEHLI) is the Department of Environmental Health and Technology, School of Public Health, Walailak University’s program to strengthen leadership development and networking among students in the Bachelor of Science program in Environmental Health, through a variety of programs and activities related to the environment and health issues both in Thailand and Malaysia. More than the experience and knowledge gained from the 5 days and 4 nights (May 16-20, 2022) at Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. In addition to special lectures on the environmental issues from lecturers, researchers, and graduate students, Students in the YEHLI program also have the opportunity to study at highlighted locations in Penang through CEMACS academic cooperation networks, including Batu Maung Transfer Station which is the place that shows an integrated solid waste management system to efficiently handle all issues related to the transfer and disposal of bulk and domestic waste, sustainable environmental management city at the Penang Green Council, nature-based tourism and learning about sustainable tourism concepts in environmental health challenges at the United Nations Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve by The Habitat Foundation). We would like to express our deep gratitude to all Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies members for what you have done for us during this program, to make us feel at home, and to make this program meaningful and memorable, as well as their partners from The Habitat Foundation, Penang Green Council, Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang - MBPP, Eurasia Express Sdn.
